TRY THIS TOOL FOR HIGHER WRITING PRODUCTIVITY

Recently, I stumbled across a writing-related post on Pinterest. It recommended, among other things, a tool called Fighter's Block. Essentially, it's a website that pits you against a monster as you type. You set a target word count, and you have to reach that word count to defeat the monster.

Naturally, I had to try it out.

I decided to start off with a small goal: 250 words, or about one typed page. My Little-Red-Riding-Hood-esque avatar (provided by the website) faced off against a giant Easter egg called Not-a-Block.

And so the epic battle commenced.

Despite the silly characters and graphics, something interesting happened. Just sitting and thinking would cause my character to lose health, so I had to keep going, writing whatever came to mind. It definitely wasn't my proudest work, but it was getting unstuck from my head and going onto the screen. And even when I'd beaten the monster, I was starting to get into the scene and wanted to keep going and make it better.

I'll definitely be going back to Fighter's Block, as cheesy as the graphics and characters are, because I think this is going to be a great tool to help me push past perfectionism and just write. 10/10 would recommend.

Write on,

Candice
