When I was about seventeen, I wrote a spoof of Treasure Island. The general idea was for it to be a short film, but that never happened. Regardless, it was a blast (pardon the pun) to write. Pool noodles for swords, orange-juice-obsessed pirates, drawing the black spot on a person's hand instead of giving them a drawing of a black spot, anachronistic pop-culture references, ninjas saving the day—nothing was sacred. 😁
When I got to the end, I discovered I'd made a rather glaring omission. But by that point, I was tired and didn't want to go back and fix it. So the post-credits scene went like this:
😳🙄🤷🏻♀️🤣
In contrast to the omission I talked about yesterday, I realized that when you're writing something that's goofy in the first place, mistakes aren't as big of a deal. In fact, sometimes rolling with a mistake is even funnier than what you originally had in mind. (See, for example, these Studio C sketches in which Natalie accidentally cracks a table with Jason's head and in which Jason ad-libs perfectly for a sticky door.)

(Now to get "This One's for the Girls" unstuck from my head. . . .)
Write on,
