With tomorrow being Independence Day in the US, things like freedom are on my mind and heart.
Today, I'm particularly thankful for the freedom of the press guaranteed in the First Amendment to our constitution. In the US and in countries with similar protections, you and I don't need a license to publish, don't have to have our work approved by government censors, and aren't forbidden from writing about certain topics. As long as we follow intellectual-property laws, we can publish whatever we want without fear. And that freedom was paid for with the most precious commodity there is: human lives.
There's a lot more I could say, but this beautiful rendition of "God Bless the USA" expresses many of them better than I can. For all our shortcomings and failures to live up to our ideals, I still love my country with all my heart and soul. I wouldn't trade living here for anything.
So this weekend and always, let's honor the price so many have paid and use our dearly bought freedom to write things that'll make our world a better place. Click here if you'd like to discuss how I can support you on that journey.
Write on and happy Independence Day,
Candice
