While I was teaching sixth-grade history, my fellow teachers and I started talking one day about weird "superpowers" we have. Here are the ones I remember:
Ms. "H" breaks any clock she gets near. Well, that's how she put it. Her classroom clock, her watch—they regularly stop working for no apparent reason.
Any time Mrs. "S" says or thinks, "Huh, it's been a while since I got summoned for jury duty," the letter shows up in the mail within a week or two.
I have several. As more than one person has playfully accused, I can trip over both thin air and large, obvious things that are standing completely still, such as Walmart floor displays. Whenever I don't know where to stand, I almost inevitably pick the spot where I'm most in the way. I've almost stepped on/biked over snakes multiple times. I'm unusually good at balancing things on my head. And if a goofy accident can happen to me, it will: falling off a treadmill in front of an entire weight room full of people, getting stuck in a bouncing elevator, denting a saucepan trying to crush some stubborn peppermints, and so on.
This line of thought inspired today's prompt:
Write about a "superhero" with a useless superpower who ends up having to save the world anyway.
Use the social-media links at the top of this page to share the first paragraph of your story!
Write on,
