One of my favorite Facebook pages is It's a Southern Thing. I'm in the odd position of having grown up in the North but having lived long enough in the South to empathize with the struggles of 90-percent humidity, hurricane season, and the annual-yet-unpredictable Snowpocalypse that shuts everything down for a week. And I did, in fact, once see macaroni and cheese listed as a vegetable on a restaurant menu. 🤨
The other day, the Southern Thing page admins posted this gem, and someone responded with the comment of the year:
In my experience with what always runs out at the grocery store before it snows in the South, I'd replace vanilla extract with bread and snowcream with French toast, but . . . 🤣
(My siblings and I were also shocked to learn that Piggly Wiggly grocery stores are not, in fact, exclusive to Wisconsin. I'm not sure I remember ever running across a Piggly Wiggly in the South, but apparently they're all over the region.)
